Street tire recommendation

Post by kermit » Sat Sep 29, 2007 10:09 pm

Since I'm so out of it, I would appreciate some street tire recommendations that are good for AX. Thanks!

if you can get the right sizes, the Falken Azenis RT615 is one of the hot street class tires in SCCA...

or get some Federals like Larry has on his RSA....

they seem to work pretty well.

Oh yeah, the "Federales"

They must work good, cause it can't be the driver :D

The Falkens are alledgedly a good bang for the buck. I've heard some complaints about them getting greasy.... (SCCA and others)

From personal experience, I'd recommend the Yokohama Advan Neovas - but... $$$. The newish tire that's not really been tested a whole season is the Bridgestone RE-01r... much cheaper than the Neovas and 'maybe' just a good. I just got a set for the street.

Hi Guys,
The Falkens are not available in my tire size. Are the Federals really good? They're really inexpensive. Of course, my wife loves the fact that it is a Taiwan company.

Thanks,
Martin

advan neovas if you want to spend the money.

bridgestone re01-R, however, these have recently gone up in price by a lot. they are just shy of the advans now.

the new "IT" tire is the dunlop durezza. its still cheap too.

if you want the re01-R... as a PCA member you should be entitled to a $100 rebate on the reo1-R. scca and other car clubs also eligible.

Howard,

I just put a set of Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs on my hot rod Mazda and I like them better than the Falkens. Better riding and they seem to grip just as well if not better!

http://www.dunloptires.com/catalog/dire ... rSpec.html

And they are offering $50 mail in rebate now!

Tire rack sells these tires.

+1. Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs

These are the tires Iam puttin on next for my street tires.

Supposedly much better than the Falken 615 and much much cheaper than the Neova and re01r.

I'm on my second AX season with Toyo RA-1's, and it looks like they'll last through this year. I use them for around a dozen AX's a year, plus driving to and from (100 miles or so) plus driving to/from work one day a week (40 miles) plus the occasional backroad run. Probably around 3000 miles a year plus the AX's.

The good: they seem to work well at Marina (perhaps imagination), and they don't seem to degrade with wear. The bad: they seem less good at Alameda (again, perhaps imagination), and they REALLY don't like wet.

I'm satisfied with them, all in all, but whether someone else would call them a practical street tire depends on how they intend to use them.
