GGR Members win the 25hours of Thunderhill AGAIN!

Post by David Leong » Sun Dec 07, 2008 6:32 pm

Congratulations to Laura Thomas and Juan Pineda for winning class E2 at the 25 hours of Thunderhill, which concluded today. Laura and Juan were members of the 4 driver team Evil Genius 2, driving a Miata on Kuhmo V710s. They join other GGR members who won overall in 2006 and sat on the podium 3 years running.

Some of you newer follks may not know Juan, but he still has a GT3, and I can't count the number of you who may have had instruction at an AX or TT from Laura.

Lets not forget to give Dean Thomas a hard time too, although I think he'll be more excited than Laura. He was in the other team car, which lost 90 minutes due to an engine swap.

I'll make sure Laura see's the congratulations, guys. She doesn't patrol the forums like I do :)

I'm very excited for Laura and Juan and the 3 other drivers in that car. They did a fantastic job and deserve the win.

As for my own experience... while I'm disappointed with our result, it was almost worth it to witness how fast, talented and dedicated the Evil Genius Racing crew was. I coasted off the track (from first place!) and into the back paddock at the two and a half hour mark when the engine let go. I drove back onto the track an hour and 40 minutes later with a new engine intalled. That time included having to swap the entire intake manifold and thottle body onto the new engine AND having to pull the valve cover and reset the cam timing after the new engine wouldn't fire.

I did two laps shifting at 5000 rpm to "break in the motor" and then we ran the snot out of it for the next 15 hours. The race was shortened in the middle due to fog, so the total racing time was only about 18 hours.

Thanks to GGR members Dave Leong, Ken Jones, Richard Roth and Tim Stewart for all coming by to say hello.

Congrads to Miller/EGR. I was crew on the #55 BiggsB E2 Miata and came looking to see if anyone on here was on the teams running the Porsches and find out what happened to them. That blue one was a great looking car.

Best story of the weekend was the Scion team. Rolling the car in practice, totally rebuilding the car and making the start. Then they had the tranny go in the race, found a replacement on craigslist in Sac, and replaced in during the fog delay and ended up finishing the race. The blue #41 was also composed of GGR members, as was the Orange #97 911.

Nice pics, Trek! It was great to see you out there at the 25. Thanks for coming by to say hello and for snapping some great photos of our team, too. I should have acknowledged you along with the other GGR attendees in my first post, but I always think of you in the context of Trackmasters, etc., not GGR... doh!

Cheers,

Dean
