Running AutoX groups by classes instead of Random placements

Post by sl951 » Mon Mar 19, 2007 9:48 pm

Yes it may be dependent on who/how many show up to balance things out. But do you think it might be possible run the Auto X groups based on classes.

Just an example...
Say Red Group = AX 1-5 + Fun, BLUE Group = AX 5-8, GREEN Group = AX 8-12....

Same class folks can be on the same course conditions and folks can watch their competition, instead of possibly working out of sync on security duty or other.

I've had discussion with several people interested in this.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Steve

great idea....we used to do it this way when we had our old rules system...

would definitely level the playing field so everyone would get the same basic track conditions :D

I think it could work we have done it in the past.. only takes a change at registration during sign ups.. but as always it is up to the guys running the show

I agree. We used to. SCCA does. But the only concern I see is comparable sizing of the groups, so we don't burden a smaller group with standing out on course disproportionally long. If the chairs see it that way too - it will impact their workload trying to massage group sizes at the start.

Steve - For me at least, I ran in red because I was working early and never got a course walk and only played half a day.

- Yes, we don't want to burden smaller groups...etc

We could have something like... if you show up early/first you'll be placed in the right class/ run group. The last minute folks and FUN will be placed randomly to balance things out.

Since we used to have the sign-in sheets segrated by classes, that 'could' work at sign-up.... would involve a separate sheet for "fun" runs - so they could quantify were to put the filler people. No?
